Is this background remover really free?

Yes — completely free with no signup, no watermark, and no per-image limit. There is no server doing the work, so there is nothing to meter or charge for.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The background is removed entirely inside your browser using an on-device AI model. Your image never leaves your device. The only thing downloaded is the AI model itself, the first time you use the tool.

Why is the first use slower?

The first time you use it, your browser downloads a one-time AI model (around 110 MB). After that it is cached, so every later image is fast — and your photo always stays on your device.

What image types are supported?

JPG, PNG and WEBP work best. The output is always a transparent PNG so you can place the subject on any background.

Does it work on phones?

It can, but a recent desktop browser with WebGPU (Chrome or Edge) is fastest. Very large images on older phones may be slow or run out of memory.

What kind of images work best?

This tool is tuned for people — portraits, profile pictures, headshots, selfies and ID photos give the cleanest results. It can attempt other subjects too, but photos with a clear person and good contrast work best.
